In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media p
At the start of the project, when we was researching other psychological thrillers, it made us realise the typical forms and conventions of real media products out today. We looked through five psychological thriller movies briefly and we found that the typical conventions in these movies were that lighting for the movies are typically shadows and low key lighting- These things are typically convention of a psychological thriller, they are used to add tension into a scene, and in some cases are used to represent the inner darkness within the character. We did the same thing and kept the lighting very low key so it would give that sense of tension to the audience. For props mirrors are commonly used in psychological thrillers to portray the use of reflections of character inner self as well as representing the 'dark side' of a character. As for our media project we used windows instead of mirrors because although technically it is not the same thing but you can still see a reflection on the window. In the majority of psychological thriller openings,we have watched, they are set in modern and urban settings and that is why when we shot our media project it was set in a modern time instead of one that was shot in the past. The music we used in our media project was eerie and tense, this is because it builds up tension in a scene or to create a shock within an audience. We noticed that every psychological thriller had tense and up pace music in most of the scenes; that is what makes the movie so scary and tense. In psychological movies Camera movements are an important factor and we used various amount of camera shots and camera angles to improve our project. Camera movements can be used to build up tension and panic within the scene which can make the audience feel like they are in the movie or it can make them feel the same emotions the character is feeling, which would be feeling frightened at the moment of time. The camera shots we took allowed us to make the scenes more tense and mysterious for the audience as in them we didn't reveal too much details. We took a lot of time in the editing because we know that the editing is what gives the movie its psychological thriller feeling. In our media project we used a lot of editing. As an example We used flashbacks to shows what has previously happened, to give the audience an insight to the characters past or to highlight an important message that would not usually fit into the scene, we done this to show the audience why the character is how they are and why they are in the position they are currently in now. We knew if we used the black and white colouring it would enhance the effectiveness of shadows, that is why when we went back in time we used the black and white colouring, and it is also to make it easier for the audience to know that we went back in time otherwise they would be confused.
